The committee of Swinford 2000 was formed to help with the up keep of various village amenities. One big project that we have been involved is the village playground. We help to drive the project from the start and have worked tirelessly to make the vision into reality. Although money was raised to buy the kit for the playground, it was all constructed by village sweat and muscle – and afterwards passed inspection by the appropriate authorities with flying colours.
Now the village playground forms a focal part of Swinford and is a wonderful facility for children (and parents!). Swinford 2000 continues as a charity and the committee meet regularly to ensure that the playground – and village green – are kept in good order and arrange for regular inspections, together with an annual one carried out by RoSPA.
Also through fundraising events Swinford2000 operate a community bus in the village, because of the transport cuts, making it possible for people to get in and out of the village easily at an affordable price. Further projects are always a possibility, if the opportunity arises.
A recent addition is the village defibrillator, that we help to up keep, by making sure it is in working order and that the pads that needed when using the equipment are in date.
